Emily Miscioscia Midwife

Grace Bay Medical Center is excited to introduce to you our Midwife, Emily Miscioscia.

Emily is a very passionate Midwife that feel privileged to support women and their families through the childbearing year by offering care, advice and reassurance from pre-conception, through pregnancy and into the postnatal period.

Emily has worked as Midwife for the past 14 years, both in the UK and the Turks and Caicos Islands. For the majority of her clinical career, she has worked as a community midwife in an award-winning midwife led unit with high home birth rates and a commitment to continuity models of care. She was the lead care provider for all the women and families in her caseload.

Emily met with women at their first pregnancy appointment and followed through their pregnancy, birth and into the postnatal period. This is a wonderful way of practicing midwifery as it enables a relationship of trust and high-quality support offered and empowering women to make evidenced based choices that are right for themselves and their babies and referring on to medical staff if and when the need arose.
Since 2019, Emily has worked as a Midwifery Lecturer for Robert Gordon University in Scotland. This university offers outstanding education for undergraduate student midwives.

She is the module and stage lead for students in their second year of study and she is also the UNICEF Baby Friendly Lead for the midwifery programme. Over the last year, she led the University through gaining Baby Friendly Gold award, a prestigious award demonstrating commitment to supporting breastfeeding and enabling the best start for mothers and infants.

In 2018, Emily completed her Masters in Maternal and Child Health, with a focus on global maternal and infant health and infant feeding. In 2021, She completed postgraduate modules in learning and teaching, and became a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

She is currently studying towards a leadership qualification with UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative, which she is due to complete in August 2022. Emily is thrilled to be back in Turks and Caicos Islands working as a Midwife at Grace Bay Medical Center, where she works very closely with the Medical Doctors as well as with the
Mental Health Practitioner, Naturopathic Doctor, Registered Nurses and Osteopath.

She will offer midwifery services for women and families. She will ensure high quality and compassionate support throughout the maternity period and into the postpartum period by giving care and advice based on the highest quality of evidence. She will offer a triage service for women who have concerns as well as offering classes to prepare women and partners for labour, birth and breastfeeding.

In the postnatal period, she will also offer breastfeeding support and care for mothers and babies at home.
